Even though acrobatics is mostly regarded as an individual sport, we at Acron are still a team and support each other as a team.

About Us

Acrobatics is a highly disciplined sport, focused on flexibility, strength, balance and controlled body movement.

Due to the very nature of acrobatics, it is important to acknowledge that acrobatics will specifically develop fine and gross motor skills.

Our Classes

We offer classes for each age group

Acrotots

Ages 3 - 5
Focusing mainly on flexibility and early development of core and upper body strength through balancing skills and techniques.

Primary

Ages 6 - 8
Progressing from beginner level to a more competitive level. Focusing on technique, strength and balance while advancing overall flexibility.

Junior

Ages 9 - 13
This is the prime age category where acrobats mature their acrobatic skills and techniques while focusing on more advanced tricks and maintaining optimal flexibility, strength and balance.

Senior

Ages 14+
A very competitive and mature age category designed for both highly competitive acrobats as well as acrobats who would like to mainly focus on maintaining their flexibility and technique.

Technique, flexibility, strength and balance can be achieved at any age with consistent perseverance and hard work.

Professional Accreditation

Compete in examinations, club competitions, North Gauteng Championships and
SA National Championships.

International Reach

Competitions like the Dance World Cup, Dance Star, American Dance Awards and Beyond 2000, gives students the opportunity to compete internationally

Larize Barnard

Founder | Head coach

Larize started her acrobatic career at the age of seven.
She quickly realised what a passion and natural contortion talent she had for acrobatics.
With an excellent combination of hard work, perseverance, natural talent and a dedicated
support team, she achieved many accomplishments such as:

  • Overall acrobatic winner at World Championships of Beyond 2000 at the age of 9
  • Overall 1 st Runner up at the American Dance Awards in Orlando Florida at the age of
    10
  • The first Junior Bursary award winner to win the Senior Bursary award consecutively
  • As a rhythmic gymnast received the overall first place at the International Zone 6 in
    Namibia
  • Gauteng North Acrobatic colours for 12 years
  • The first acrobat in 15 years to achieve a full score, 10/10 at the Gauteng North
    Acrobatic Championship and thereafter three times
  • Honours with Distinction for her Advanced Teacher Examination

She prides herself in being well experienced and a dedicated, consistent and fair teacher
who pays attention to detail from practicing in class, technique, flexibility and balancing
skills to routine music, personality, leotards and overall appearance, as well as focusing on
sportsmanship and etiquette.

 

 

 

Karla Ackermann

Karla started her dance career at the age of three with ballet and gymnastics.
At the age of six she started with Acrobatics and fell in love with dance and Performing Arts. At the age of 13, Karla started contemporary dance and discovered her talent for choreography and combining unique dance styles. 
Karla not only dedicated her time and talent to dance but loved sharing her dream with others. Karla worked hard to achieve her goals and accomplishments such as:

  • Multiple Gauteng North and South African Championships.
  • Represented South Africa in America (ADA) in 2014 and 2017, achieving Ultimate Gold in both her solo’s and her duet. With a special award for Choreography and unique style and performance. 
  • 2015 Bursary winner.
  • Senior Contemporary Dance winner in her category with 99.8% in Eistedfod.
  • Grade 11 SABOT contemporary exam.
  • Honours with Distinction for her Advanced Teacher Examination

Karla studied Musical Theatre and Dance and joined industry professionals on stage in “A Chorus Line “, “ICONIC “, “HOME”, etc. She prides herself in being well experienced and an educated teacher. Karla pays attention to detail and strives to use each dancers uniqueness to their advantage.
